Just 10 km from the village of Thio, Camping de Moara is very popular among New Caledonians. Situated by an attractive light brown sand beach, this peaceful campsite lies in the shade of mango and coconut trees. It’s a beautiful setting made even more special by the presence of waves—unusual in New Caledonia. Picnic tables, water points, fire pits, outdoor showers and 2 ablutions blocks are available for guests’ use.

The sea bed just off the beach is remarkably well preserved and the wreck of La Joliette is a renowned spot for diving and snorkelling. If you want to explore the small surrounding islands, just ask Marie-Joelle, the campsite manager. And Moara beach is well known for its dugongs, also known as sea cows. They are the area's mascot, but it’s best to keep a safe distance from them. They're used to people and might want to play with you, which could be dangerous.

You are welcome to spend the day at the campsite, and guests are able to book part of it for a large group.
