Set up by Eliane Atiti in Yaté ten years ago, the aim of the E Nga Ta Vuu association is to encourage the tribe’s women to be independent. Its members are taking action to gain food self-sufficiency and share their traditional skills and culture. Every Saturday morning, the women get together at the local produce and seafood market in Goro. Here, they offer visitors the chance to take part in coconut leaf weaving workshops to keep this traditional skill alive. Locals and visitors are welcome to try their hand at making baskets, hats and other items.

Group meals can be prepared to order using local produce and served under the site’s large thatched “faré” with a spectacular view of the Great Southern Lagoon.

The E Nga Ta Vuu association regularly organises get-togethers with other women's groups from New Caledonia and the Pacific to explore synergies and make the movement more powerful.
